Windsor County's long running Agricultural Fair scheduled for July 7 & 8, 2012

This year will mark the 39th year that the “Best Little Fair in Vermont” will be held at Barlow’s Field on historic Eureka Road in Springfield Vermont on July 7 and 8, 2012.

The focus of this year’s fair is on NEW AGRICULTURE, which of course is really just returning to the “old” ways of local food and small family farms.  We will be celebrating and honoring Windsor County’s farmers, dairies, crafters and tradespeople through new exhibiting areas, including:

  • Farmer’s Market held on Sunday, July 8th, with many local farmers and crafters displaying their produce and wares!
  • Agricultural Exhibition Area featuring a wide variety of “How To” exhibits that will showcase talents with carpentry, masonry walls, gardening, beekeeping, maple syrup grading, cheese-making, raising poultry and more!
  • Children’s Activity Tent - Providing hands-on activities and games for the future of Windsor County - our children!

Historically the Windsor County Agricultural Fair moved around the county to such locations as the Billings Farm in Woodstock (1855-1932), the Hartland Fairgrounds, the Vermont State Farm in Windsor (1963-1970) and the Ascutney Ski area (1971-1972).  The fair is glad to be able to continue to highlight Vermont’s agriculture in Windsor County.

Since its inception in the mid-1800s the fair has centered on all things agricultural and this year will be no exception.  The fair is seeking to expand its agricultural and local industry exhibits and is inviting people to join in passing on their knowledge to help express pride in our Vermont farming heritage.   Beekeeping or cheese-making; maple syrup production or antique farm machinery; the fair is interested in agricultural subjects old and new.

And of course, if it clucks, quacks, moos, whinnies or goes baaa you’ll be sure to find it at the Fair.   The two-day schedule of events will include ox and pony pulls, truck and tractor exhibits and 4-H competitions.  Visitors can see a variety of educational exhibits and demonstrations related to animal husbandry.

Children will love the expanded petting zoo, Buddy the Clown and variety of kiddie rides.    Everyone will enjoy the live music, including local band the Illusion and our special guests Vermont's Own 40th Army Band. Don't forget that fabulous fair food!  Those with a competitive streak will want to enter the baking contest sponsored by King Arthur Flour and the canning competitions.  Check out our Rules & Documents page for how to enter.

Fair hours will be Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
